Fortune Favours the Merry

By Peter Horan, Gerry Harrington, Cló Iar-Chonnacht

Tagairt: CICD 158

Ceol áthasach, ionraic atá ar an albam seo ar an bhfidil agus ar an bhfeadóg mhór ó bheirt cheoltóirí a bhfuil neart tallainn agus neart taithí acu araon.

Is as Cill Fhábhail, Co. Shligigh do Peter Horan, fear atá ag seinm ceol traidisiúnta le fada an lá. Tógadh Peter i gceantar ina raibh ceol na fidle i réim, agus mar sin de ní raibh mórán ceoltóirí feadóige móire ann a mbeadh tionchar acu ar an stíl cheoil a thug sé leis. Is é an ceoltóir deireanach é a bhíonn ag seinm sa stíl atá aige, stíl atá an-ghaolmhar le stíl fhidle an cheantair. Is as an Neidín i gCo. Chiarraí do Gerry Harrington, ach tá cónaí anois air i Lios Mór, Co. Phort Láirge. Tá rian láidir de cheol Sliabh Luachra ar an stíl fhidle atá aige. Tá an-mheas ar Gerry mar cheoltóir, agus is iomaí taifeadadh atá déanta aige go dtí seo, ina measc albaim le Charlie Piggott and le Nancy Conescu. Cuireann Ollie Ross go mór leis an gceol ar an albam le tionlacan bríomhar, tuisceanach ar an bpianó.

Fortune Favours the Merry is an album of joyous, uncontrived music on flute and fiddle from two musicians with both talent and experience.

Peter Horan is from Killavil, Co. Sligo, and is a veteran of Irish traditional music. Growing up in 'fiddle country' meant that his flute style was largely free of the influence of other players, and he is now the last exponent of a unique style of flute playing which is not unlike the local fiddle style. Gerry Harrington is from Kenmare, Co. Kerry, and is now living in Lismore, Co. Waterford. His fiddle style is predominantly that of Sliabh Luachra. Gerry is a highly respected musician who has made several other recordings, including collaborations with Charlie Piggott and Nancy Conescu. Ollie Ross brings a lovely touch to the album with lively, intuitive accompaniment on piano.
