New translation of Eoin Colfer novel to launch in Scoil Náisiúnta Mhic Dara Monday, 14th October, 2019

Eoin Colfer's The Legend of the Worst Boy in the World, which has been translated to Irish by Máirín Ní Ghadhra and published by Cló Iar-Chonnacht will be launched on the 23rd of October. The children's novel will be launched in Scoil Mhic Dara, An Cheathrú Rua, Co. Galway on Wednesday, 23 October at 11.00 a.m. Máirín Ní Ghadhra, a journalist with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and writer, will be talking at the event about her own experience as a broadcaster and writer.

"Eoin Colfer's books are loved all over the world; this is a funny and playful story. I am delighted to have the opportunity to help children enjoy these stories in Irish."

Máirín Ní Ghadhra is a broadcaster who has spent twenty-five years with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. She presents programme An tSeachtain on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta every weekend and she also presents the current affairs programme 7Lá on TG4. She lives in An Cheathrú Rua with her husband Séamus and their two daughters, Eimear and Ailbhe.

An Buachaill Is Measa ar Domhan is title of the Irish-language translation of The Legend of the Worst Boy in the World, written by Eoin Colfer and illustrated by Tony Ross. Máirín Ní Ghadhra's translation is fun and enjoyable to read and the book is suitable for readers between 7 and 9 years of age.

Growing up with four complainers for brothers, Máirtín has a hard time getting an audience for his own troubles. He has to wait in line to gripe to his mom - and that leaves his dad. But since his dad is so busy, Máirtín has to defer to his older (and bigger) brother Marty. Máirtín decides that what he really needs is his own grown-up to complain to. And he has the perfect guy for the job - someone who's a good listener and ha a lot of free time: Grandad.

An Buachaill Is Measa ar Domhan is Máirín Ní Ghadhra's tenth translated title for children. She has translated titles from the series An Cúigear Cróga / The Famous Five and An Seachtar Stuama / The Secret Seven by Enid Blyton. Other titles that Ní Ghadhra has translated are books from the Scéalta Scéine series by Andrew Fusek and Dónall Dána / Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon. She is the editor of the book Nollaig Ó Gadhra: Cuimhní Cairde in memory of her father, the well-known journalist Nollaig Ó Gadhra.
